Kotaku is a great gaming blog website (although I’m still not keen on the re-design).
Yesterday they posted a story titled “Troll Explains Why Microsoft’s BC Is Teh Sux0r” which explained how a visitor to the also excellent Xbox Live’s Major Nelson blog eloquently ranted about the recent backwards compatibility list for the 360.
“Zaiten” as the bloke is known (yes he surely must be male) theorised in his 1000+ word post that there must be a conspiracy in the 360 camp stopping such great games as PANZER DRAGOON ORTA, SHENMUE II, GUN VALKYRIE, OTOGI, JET SET RADIO, and CRAZY TAXI from being ported.
My wholeheartedly intellectual response to this was merely:
“Still no Fifa 2006 then :-(”
Which was gleefully used by Kotaku in ridicule of Zaitens balshy rant… So… You may be wondering, how do I feel about this??

I did it! I signed up for a hosting package at Dreamhosts. Its for a new project I am working on and hopefully they will live up to the hype.
It was an AMAZING deal. Using the code “MAX4ALL” I managed to get 2 years hosting for just $93.80:
New Charge: $190.80 (2 years of L1.)
- $97.00 (MAX4ALL “Max discount for all plans”)
Due Now: $93.80
Which is less than £50.
For that paltry amount I get all of this:
1 FREE domain registration
www.yourname.com
UNLIMITED domains hosted
UNLIMITED subdomains
20 GB Disk, 1 TB Transfer
3000 Mailboxes, 75 Shell/FTP Users
Which hopefully means when my PowWeb lease on this site and Baconmusic.co.uk run out I can move over without having to re-register.
Lovely

What have I been doing instead of writing on my blog?

PowWeb my soon-not-to-be web hosts (if they keep up with these changes) messed up my email for about 2 weeks so if you sent anything to me between now and the start of August 2006 send it again… Sorry
Also, if anyone knows if Dreamhost are any good drop me a message.
One last thing: Is anyone else really peeved that Fifa 2006 is NOT on the Xbox 360 Backwards Compatibility list
I sure am. (Keep reading)
This came as a very weird shock today:
James Van Allen, one of the pioneers of America’s space program who gave his name to the belts of radiation that encircle the Earth, died Wednesday. He was 91.

Why was it a such a shock? He was 91 years old!
It was a shock Because yesterday I watched this documentary:

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Moon (2001)
I found this pile of pseudo - science - conspiracy - theory - crap via the quite wonderful Free Movies, Documentaries, Cartoons, Music & Comedy website.
I could not believe that such a idiotic piece of film could have been put together as late as the year 2001. A time when surely ALL of the conspiracy about the moon trips had been proved for what they are (complete bollocks).
The religious overtones and overuse of spooky and over-dramatized music made me physically wince in my seat as I watched, sometimes screaming at the TV.
ALL of the so called “theory’s” put forward were shambolic and under researched to the point of pure ignorance.
Today, I planned to write a short de-bunk-style post linked to this useless piece of film making. My main gripe with the film was its use of the Van Allen Belts as evidence that we never went to the moon.

If you think Nero is too bloated or just don’t have any money for CD-R software. I would highly recommend burnatonce.

Unlike other free CD-R software this one actually works. I was able to copy a CD burn an image and rip a CD to an ISO with no problems.
SlickRun is a great tool for quick thinking Start Menu Hating IT folk such as myself
SlickRun is a free floating command line utility for Windows. SlickRun gives you almost instant access to any program or website. SlickRun allows you to create command aliases (known as MagicWords), so C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe becomes MAIL.
Enter a web URL into SlickRun and it will launch your browser and navigate to the specified address. Run multiple programs in a few keystrokes, jot a note, look up a definition… SlickRun is the most natural way to interact with your computer
Basically you add a few MagicWords for your fave apps, great for web development work… Download it! Give it a try. (Keep reading)

Got my Writely Beta invite a few moments ago. What’s Writely?…

Writely is a web-based word processor currently in beta, and soon to be integrated into Google’s suite of web applications (following a 2006 acquisition). It can be used as a collaborative text editing suite, and features access controls. Writely’s user interface is a WYSIWYG word processor that appears within a web browser. Menus, keyboard shortcuts, and dialogue boxes show up in a way similar to what you would expect on a GUI-driven word processor, such as Microsoft Word or OpenOffice.org.
From Wikipedia
Writely is pretty nice to use and a lot less flaky than some of the other online word processes available (such as FCKEditor or TinyMCE).
