Gamers Care - The Public Are In the Dark

Filed under: Games, TV - November 22nd, 2006

This TV Ad for the Xbox 360 game “Gears of War” ran on ITV last night:

I think its an excellent ad. The only let down was the “Actual In-Game Footage” sticker that had to overlaid in order to comply with recent legal proceedings concerning misleading gaming ads. But I digress… (Keep reading)

Rocky Trailer, Hmm…?

I have just seen the new trailer for the all new Rocky film due out at the end of the year:

This is the extended version and it shows the viewer a lot more of the action and the actual storyline is embellished to try and help fans visualise what the film is trying to be.

Initially I wanted to write that I hated the idea of this film and the only time I would probably watch it would be on a late night BBC2 repeat sometime in 2010. But as I watched, I became more intrigued by the idea of this film. Now, weirdly, I am keen to see more? (Keep reading)

Waiting…

Serene, I fold my hands and wait,
Nor care for wind, nor tide, nor sea;
I rave no more ‘gainst time or fate,
For lo! my own shall come to me.

Jose Antonio Reyes Talks Pap

Former gunners winger Jose Antonio Reyes said a funny thing today.

Citing his reason for leaving England he raised this issue:

The 23-year-old added: “Everything in England is shut at 5pm, there is nothing to do, nowhere to go. I just got bored.

Full story

5pm? In that case it appears that Mr Reyes only real sources of pleasure in life (after football) are:

  • Queuing for a pasty in Greggs.
  • Buying a news paper or perhaps a book of stamps.
  • Visiting random offices to borrow their photocopier.
  • Queuing at the bank in order to pay bills or perhaps pay in his vast wages.

As an inhabitant of the English isles I feel I should reply to this blasphemy. (Keep reading)

Soapboxing

Filed under: TV, Technology - November 2nd, 2006

Microsoft sent me this email today:

It’s time to tune in. We’d like you to try MSN’s new user-uploaded video service we’re calling Soapbox on MSN Video. Before we take the service to prime time we’re looking for beta testers who are into watching and uploading videos to help us put the service to the test.

Soapbox is Microsoft’s much anticipated YouTube rip off.

Is it any good? Not yet. As with any video site its the community that makes it work and Soapbox has no community, not yet anyway.

The question is, will Microsoft be able to pry users away from YouTube/MetaCafe/Etc?

If they can address these key issues they could pull it off:

  • Speed videos should load a hell of a lot faster than on YouTube.
  • Copyright admins removing video is not fun.
  • Returns PAY users who upload videos that bring visitors to the site. Set up some kind of ad-sharing program.
  • Easy make uploading easy, like Mac user easy.

Even with these in place its the quality of the content that will eventually “sell” the site. At the moment its full off re-hashed comedy videos and some un-amusing Microsoft stuff.

One interesting video I did find is below:
