Fat Lady

The Soprano’s just ended for me with the strange and interesting last episode leaving a gaping void in the TV schedule.

What with the death of the West Wing a year ago and Studio 60 giving up it seems that quality drama will be left to likes of Heroes and Dexter. Neither of which excite me in the same way as the aforementioned shows.

I suppose it gives me time to play more 360 games. I really need to get hold of the Orange Box. I never did get around to playing HL:2 on the old Xbox.

Jolly Jol

In a ’shock’ move Martin Jol was finally sacked/quit sometime last night.

I have nothing to say on this matter other than I once met Martin in a bar while in Germany last year for the world cup and he seemed like a very nice chap.

What I say “met” of course what I really mean is he was in the same bar as me during one of the matches. And I didn’t actually talk to him, or even really get within a decent distance of him.

Anyway, he seemed OK. He was on the phone a lot actually. I guess that’s part of the job he used to have.

For the Spurs fans out there, I hope this cheers you up:

Finished The Fight

Halo 3 is over for me and with it the end of a wonderful and moving gaming trilogy.

I have enjoyed the Halo games from the moment I played the first one and the somewhat disappointing sequel on the old Xbox.

It is, (should I say WAS) the best console FPS adventure to date.

As for the 3rd one, it more than made up for the shortcomings of the 2nd. Lets just say that the ending is far, far, far superior. In fact, its one of the best video game endings I have seen.

As for the gameplay/graphics/multiplayer/etc… Well, they have all been dissected and put back together by the blogosphere over the past few weeks so I will remain silent on these matters and sign of simply by saying it was a great game and a fitting end to the saga of Spartan 117.

England Sunk By Russian Resolve

Russia 2-1 England, a bad result which puts Euro 2008 qualification practically to bed.

It was a good game, invigorating in a way after the past few walkovers, but the result hurts.

Nothing else can be said :(

Match Report (BBC)

Something Roulette?

What with an England match a few days ago and another tomorrow I feel as if I should write something.

Problem is. There really is nothing to say??

England won convincingly (boringly) at the weekend (link) and even though Owen was stifled by the return of Rooney and they booed Frank I have yet to find the strength or spirit to really pour some words out on the matter.

The next game is tomorrow afternoon and I have other things to worry about as I have a BIG day Thursday (more about this later).

So rather than regurgitate the spewings of pundits I will instead simply list a series of links:

England 3-0 Estonia

Lawro’s predictions

England’s pitch battle

Barnes angered by Lampard booing

Frank Lampard in the cold as Steve McClaren goes bold

England superstars have to find their feet back in the schoolyard

HTC Touch Dual Review

CoolSmartPhone have what looks like the first real review of the new HTC Touch Dual I talked about last week as a possible replacement for my ageing Orange SPV C600.

Its not the most extensive review. I suppose this is due to the fact that the Touch Dual is basically the same as the Touch (reviewed here) but with a slide out keypad. So I guess you can piece together any detail by reading both reviews.

Still not sold on the device. I’d like to see the bundled headphones and mess around with the interface.

Be Slash Prices

I just got the most wonderful email from Be Broadband regarding my internet service:

Be unlimited £18 per month
Be unlimited is one of the fastest broadband products available in the UK. Before today the price was £24 per month for the up to 24 Mbps downstream and up to 1.3 upstream speeds, but we have now reduced it to £18 per month. Be unlimited is also a completely uncapped service so members can surf as much as they like and members also have the option of either dynamic or static IP address at no extra cost.

In addition, there will no longer be an additional charge for a static IP with Be Unlimited.

I’ve been using Be’s 24mb unlimited service for about 6 months now and after my hellish experience with Sky they are a breath of fresh air.

I always thought £24 was a little bit expensive considering companies such as TalkTalk/Sky/Tesco now have free or greatly reduced broadband services on the market but at £18 you really can’t complain! Its worth it for what is a MASSIVE upload speed which really makes torrents and online gaming (Xbox Live!) fly!

Anyone on-the-fence in a Be area should upgrade now: www.bethere.co.uk

Going Postal

The current string of UK Postal Strikes are now becoming a joke that is no longer funny.

royalmail.png

Yes, I can see that its a difficult job sorting and delivering the mail. Carrying heavy loads, walking for miles in mixed weather conditions and for little job satisfaction.

But the Royal Mail has to see that their efforts to gain sympathy with the public and pile pressure on the government are simply not working. I, like many other Royal Mail/Post Office customers am seriously pissed off with the strike action. I have, at the moment, items stuck in the mail such as bank documents, business deliveries and a glut of CDs from PR companies.

My sympathy level for the strikers is zero. I just want my mail damn it! I don’t care who posts it, as long as its soon. And for this reason the Royal Mail should be worried.

There are now many private companies delivering mail in the UK, SMS and UKMail to name just 2.

I would now gladdy choose them over my usual postal service and I can imagine many other people and businesses are currently looking into switching to these services in order to bypass the next planned strike actions which are currently scheduled for:

15 October from 1800BST: Mail sorting offices and airports
16 October from 0300BST: Deliveries and collection hubs
17 October from 1200BST: Royal Mail drivers
18 October from 1200BST: Manual data entry centres
18 October from 1400BST: Heathrow world distribution centre

HTC Touch Dual Video Demo

The HTC Touch Dual has started to make its way into the reviewsphere and the best way to get an idea of how the device actually works and see how ergonomically sound HTC have made it is to watch a video.

I think it looks ok, it still seems a little bit too ‘big’ for my liking and I would still have to actually try one out before even thinking about buying one.

If anyone at HTC reads this how about making a smaller version of the SPV C600 with the same drop down keyboard and simple touch screen interface? That would do me just fine.

‘Good news everyone’

In a shocking feat of common sense broadcasting Futurama is back and coming soon.

I’ve known it for a while but this is the first video footage of the new series I have consumed. It looks pretty good. Its bog standard Futurama funnies, nothing new, nothing to worry about.
