My eye specialist told me to stop the drops and wash my eyes and face with shield soap twice a day. I didn't believe it would work but for me it did. Try it. I used to put drops in up to 5times a day! I hardly use eye drops.

So glad I'm not alone in this condition! And so pleased to read Michael's comment about being depressed and worn out as I hadn't put the 2 things together. I think you almost get used to dealing with it day to day and forget how it can make life so much harder some days without realising. I have been suffering for over a year on and off and this time it's not getting any better. Fortunately I have recently changed doctor's and I have actually been diagnosed with Bleph and referred to the hospital. I too have been taking Doxycycline for a month or so, but not really made any difference. The only time I had a break from Bleph was when I had a week off work at Christmas, with more sleep, less computer and driving and less stress! So I get that it can be a lifestyle issue, but we all still have to work and live our lives! There are some great tips here which I will try. I'm currently managing it with nightly heat packs (when I can be bothered) and artificial gel tears 4 times a day when at work. Thanks for the support everyone and don't give up...

Hi all, sad to hear all your experiences but glad to know I am not alone :/

I also have bleph (and I suspect MGD) and doctors DO brush it off; perhaps they dont realise how hard it is to look in the mirror and always get that bad view of your eyes!

I have had two surgeries to remove chalazions; both last years and I have another one again! Trying to avoid the surgery- now on doxycycline and have ordered occusoft since it has been praised a lot.

I wear no makeup, have given up lenses and clean eyes with warm water twice a day- its not enough it seems.

Good luck to us all!

For years I have suffered with dry eyes. Had lasic surgery, seen doctors and specialists, washed eyes, used eye drops read as many articles of the Internet as possible and tried just about every suggestion. Some help a bit but no resolvement to my ongoing problem.

Finally in desperation and somewhat of an experiment. Years ago we were discussing garlic. It has been used for thousands of years. During and after the First World War (before antibiotics) it was used to heal wounds.

So with this in mind I tried the following. Standing in front of a wash or hand basin with my eyes tightly shut or closed I rubbed the outer surface of my eyelashes and upper and lower eyelids with a small piece of fresh garlic.

Even with my eyes closed there was an intense smarting sensation, so I quickly washed or flushed my face and eye (Still with eyes tightly shut) area with cold fresh tap water. The stinging sensation quickly disappeared.

I have repeated this process and my condition seems to slowly be improving without any other help such as medication, eye drops or eye washing or flushing.

I am still taking omega 3 fish oil each day for inner and eye health. I cannot stress enough that you keep your eyes tightly shut whilst using garlic. If you should get it in your eyes, on a pain scale of one to ten I would say, “It smarts a lot”!

Hi Sue. Try to compensate with some lipstick, blusher and a nice hairstyle. you have to get used to go out and feel comfortable without wearing eye make up. I know it is difficult Believe me you will feel much more miserable and guilty if the blephartis worsens. Try to keep your eyes clean as much as possible.

Hey I'm back my red eyed friends.

I'm the person who wrote the list 1.2.3.4.5. above.

This is my update: went back to the doc, who gave me some hints (my eye doctor has this condition too, made me feel better that I have some company). Take an empty small bottle, and fill it with warm/hot water, put on cap, put tissue over eye, and massage away for 20 minutes. I'm also on Doxycycline (it's common for acne skin issues), but it has serious side effects if you are pregnant. It WILL deform a baby! Very important. The whole baby shampoo thing doesn't work well for me but I do it anyways. Also, my eyes after 7 months started to get better, then I "relaxed" and BOOM horrible flare up. So I am not going to stop my treatment no matter what. Also if my eyes hurt (tv, pc), I use eye drops, but they don't do much in my opinion.

Hello. Im 42 in march and have suffered with Bleph for most of my life. Its so bad i have to pick my eyes every other day peeling off long strands of the stuff from my eyes if im lucky, or if im not have to pick at it causing my eyelids to become very red and sore.
I have never found a treatment for the condition im sad to say in all the years of looking that works well, so now im going to start looking in other areas such as native indian, chinese or any other old medicine culture.
My dad use to bath my eye with warm milk / cotton wool buds as a kid, so might try that again as I cant remember if that helped or not.

Hi

I'm really pleased to have come across this site. I have just been diagnosed with Blepharitis. Total nightmare. I've been given Hydrocortisone by the Doctor along with allergy relief tablets and eye drops. Fingers crossed they work. Have had it for about a month now. I hate not being able to wear eye make up. I always remove my make up properly before I go to bed at night too but .... I'm not even thinking about putting eye make up on before this goes away properly. My left eye seems to be worse than my right eye. It is such a pain!!
