New Project: Wordpress 360

With the release of Wordpress 2.5 its seems that the worlds best open source publishing platform has come of age.

I have been a Wordpress user for just over 2 years now and, like millions of other users, have been using it to run a number of sites (including this one) since then.

Working with Wordpress is really a dream. Its open, but not too open, its easy to install, update and easy to use. Also, anyone with a basic knowledge of HTML/CSS and a little effort and determination can quite easily create their own Themes.

For these reason, and others, I have decided to dedicate my spare time on a new project, Wordpress 360:

Wordpress 360

Sure, there are already 100s of other Wordpress-based-websites around the web, but I believe there is room for one more.

In order to somehow stand apart WP360 will cover absolutely, everything to do with Wordpress. Not just the standard themes and plugins stuff. Instead a concise lexicon of information for anyone out there who loves Wordpress or wants to get more into developing with the platform.

The design is pretty well zipped up so at the moment I am working on content for the site. This includes a fresh new batch of tutorials based around 2.5s new features and hopefully a WHOLE lot of Video tutorials (screen casts) which will help the n00bs and the l33ts get more out of Wordpress.

If you are interested and would like more information, please get in touch:

Also, if you think you would like to contribute to the site then drop me a line asap!

  1. Good luck with your project and welcome to the overcrowded niche of WordPress. :D Also, just a heads up, but I’m sure you are aware you are not allowed to use WordPress in your blog’s domain name or URL unless you have permission of Automattic. It’s a trademark and deserves appropriate respect accordingly.

I look forward to your efforts.

  2. Hi Mike,

I was just looking at the Umbraco forum and saw a while ago you were trying to install Umbraco on a fasthosts server. Did you get it all working in the end as a client of mine has already paid up front for 2 years hosting with them without asking me first! Doh!

Please reply via email, sorry to use your comment box, but I couldn’t find a way on your blog to contact you!

    Best regards,

    Chris

  3. Hi Chris, strange way to get in touch!

I did have some success with Fasthosts and Umbraco. However, it wasn’t the best solution. The main problem was lack of access to any true IIS settings and the version of ASP.Net installed over at Fasthosts which limited the application of Umbraco somewhat.

However, as I mentioned. You should be OK for most projects. Just point your SQL Server Manager to your Fasthost server and give Umbraco a SQL user account. From this its all pretty simple.

After this, your pretty much good to go.

  4. [...] My personal expectations for the site have also been vastly expanded after doing a lot more R&D into”the overcrowded niche of WordPress.“. [...]
