Listing life…
What have I been doing instead of writing on my blog?
A few things…
- 1. Playing on my new (black) Nintendo DS lite
- 2. Attending the V2006 festival
- 3. Watching the final episodes of Lost Season 2
- 4. Trying to finish CoD 2 on the 360
- 5. Sleeping, a lot. And its starting to worry me…
Which is a shame as I gleefully lay on my back 1/2 asleep pondering witty and interesting writings for the web to enjoy. But they never actually make it from my head down into my arms, through my fingers to the keyboard and out to here…
A lot of the time I would like to blog about my daily work life. But as a Web Developer for the NHS (working in my local hospital) I doubt any of this would be of interest to the vast number of readers. Plus there is the small matter of the none disclosure agreement I have with my employer.
I suppose I should find the time to work on my personal website projects such as Baconmusic which is in need of a overhaul to bring it up to Web-two-point-oh-what-the-fuck standards.
Problem then is THIS site needs work, a LOT of work. AND worst of all I have the design mock-ups sitting at home on my hard drive ready to be CSS-es into the layout. I just don’t have the work ethic at the moment to sit down for the required hours and throw it all together…
Plus I have a project working with the TimesTwo training company. Something which has been in development for almost a year now and just needs a final push to get it done.
All of these things are Personal Web Development. This website, Baconmusic, TimesTwo, all my other on-the-side projects that are sitting around waiting for me to blast them done.
But, what is more pressing? What should take the priority here?
Its immediately obvious that my daily work life easily takes the top spot as it brings home the bread that that pays for my lifestyle and also allows me to further my Web Development skills on a daily basis. So by default the 8 hours I spend working as a Web Developer takes the top spot:
- 1. Professional Web Development Work
- 2. ..
- 3. ..
- 4. ..
- 5. ..
After that, it gets a bit messy.
I would like to say that my priority list looked something like this:
- 1. Professional Web Development Work
- 2. Personal Web Development Work
- 3. R&D
- 4. R&R
- 5. Sleep
Its more like:
- 1. Professional Web Development Work
- 2. R&R
- 3. R&D
- 4. Sleep
- 5. Personal Web Development Work
Sometimes its even:
- 1. Professional Web Development Work
- 2. Sleep
- 3. R&R
- 4. R&D
- 5. Personal Web Development Work
At its worse it can be:
- 1. R&R
- 2. Sleep
- 3. Professional Web Development Work
- 4. R&D
- 5. Personal Web Development Work
But only during a really bad week…..
Maybe I am wrong to so systematically categorize and list the things I do. Maybe life and its many musings shouldn’t be laid out like this for all the world to see. Maybe the best way is just to DO and not to THINK about it.
I find that when I do not think of myself I do not think at all.
Jules Renard - (1864 - 1910)
But that would simply not work at all…..
