mkjones.co.uk - Theme Development and content

At the top of the page it says “Welcome to the In-development version of my site.” I feel I should explain this after a late night of development.

This website wont just be a blog, the intention is to offer information on any services I can offer businesses and individuals who are stepping into the web arena with very little experience.

Over the years I have heard 100s of stories from people whose first endeavour into the web ended up costing thousands of pounds with little return other than a humbling dose of experience. My hope is to educate people who, for whatever reason, feel the need to have a website.

The underlying narrative of this advice will be that websites needn’t cost the earth. Most businesses and individuals who jump into setting up a website do it for the wrong reasons. The first question I ask anyone who comes to me enquiring about setting up a website is “Do you NEED one” the second question is “Do you REALLY NEED one”. Generally, they don’t.

Other content ideas I have for the site is advice on what services are already available on the web that can be used instead paying for an ad-hoc service.

For example:

  • Need an online store? Use eBay/PayPal
  • Personal/portfolio website? Use Blogger/WordPress.com
  • Online photo gallery? Use Flickr/Zoto

Yes, I know it seems obvious, but really sometimes its not.

Most of this advice will be available freely on the website in the form of articles/blogs.

Of course along side this content will be my portfolio of work and information on paid services I can offer. These will include full website development and digital design services such as logo design, poster/flyer design, leaflet design etc.

Check back soon for updates on all of the above.
