The Culling Continues

Filed under: Interest, Sport - May 16th, 2007

The current trend for Premiership management insurrection continues as Neil Warnock resigns as the boss of Sheffield United.

He is the sad looking bloke in this picture:

So, this season gives us….

Alan Pawdew
Chris Coleman
Les Reid (shudder)
Ian Dowie
Paul Jewel
Stuart Pearce
Glenn Roeder
Sam Allardyce
Neil Warnock

….all either leaving or being booted from their club this season.

What worries me is ALL but one of the above list are English (Coleman is Welsh) and in a few cases they will end up being replaced by imported foreign managers such as Mourinho and Benítez.

If this is a continuing trend then how can the English National team ever hope to put in place a successful and experienced home-grown manager?

Allardyce, Pearce and Jewel were in line for the said job but were pipped at the post by the uninspiring Steve McClaren. A manager who has yet to prove he can step out of the shadow of his foreign predecessor.
