Back online, back to 870

Filed under: Games, Technology - March 31st, 2007

Today. I got back online. After 141 days of absence. See SkyBroadbanned for full details of why.

My joy was dampened very soon after this as I tried to sign my Xbox 360 into Xbox Live!

You see. I had a problem logging into Xbox Live! The only way I could get online was to use the “recover gamertag” option. This was worrying as I had 6 months of gaming achievements on my hard drive and was a tad afraid that these would be overwritten by my out of date online gamer profile.

However, I had called Xbox Support a few months ago to ask if this would be a problem. They categorically told me that all I had to do was recover my gamertag and it would “merge” with my offline profile. Lovely!

This did not happen :(

So, I may be back online but I have just lost over 1000 gamerpoints from my gamerscore as well as 100s of achievements from these games:

  • G.R.A.W
  • Call of Duty 2
  • Fifa 07
  • Gears of War
  • Rockstar Table Tennis
  • Zuma
  • Geometry Wars

There are a few more but the above are the ones that really matter. I spent hours and hours on GRAW and CoD2 they were real tours of duty as I had them both on the ‘hard’ difficulty level. Gears of War isn’t too bad as I am probably still 1/2 way through the campaign so have plenty of time left to get more out of that one. Table Tennis and Geometry Wars really hurt as some of the achievements took hours to perfect, especially Geometry War’s “pacifism” achievement.

870 is my “new” gamerscore. Something which in no way reflects my hours and hours of work over the past 6 months. I was on the cusp of 2000 which would have gone a long way towards my target of 5000 by the end of the year. Sadly I do not see this happening now.

If you, like me, loose your internet connection for a long period of time, be careful and do not make the same mistake I did and listen to the Xbox Support muppets.
